Pokémon Reorchestrated’s Kanto Symphony

November 12th, 2011

Yes, somebody is making an orchestrated Pokémon cover album. Yes, they need your money via Kickstarter to make it happen. Straight from the horses (Braxton Burks) mouth:

A Cinematic Approach to Pokémon Music Ahhh! There's nothing more nostalgic than hearing the 8-bit tunes of your favorite childhood video games brought to life through lush, orchestral arrangements, as evidenced by the rising popularity of video game concerts like Video Games Live, Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy, and Play! A Video Game Symphony. But there's one video game series close to my heart that hasn't received enough recognition from these musical circles... Through my project Pokémon Reorchestrated, I've made it my duty to reinvent the music of the handheld Pokémon RPG series in the style of traditional movie scores, making downloadable mp3 versions of my arrangements available to the public for free via my website and streaming them on YouTube for all Pokémon fans to hear. Now I think it's finally time to tackle the soundtrack to the games that started it all: Pokémon Red and Blue Versions for the Game Boy. For the next few months, I'll be arranging every memorable Pokémon theme on a journey from Route 1 to Indigo Plateau, and through the magic of highly-realistic, sampled orchestral instruments + a few LIVE solo instrumentalists, a complete album of beautiful, cinematic arrangements called "Kanto Symphony" will emerge.
There's currently more than half of the needed pledge ($8,000) to start the project. Read more →

What Your Starting Pokemon Says About You

October 11th, 2011

An interesting observational piece by Andy Grossman of Dorkly.

After their father dying in a mysterious war, the most important moment in any trainer’s life is choosing their first Pokemon. Will they take the seed-shooting Bulbasaur, the water-spouting Squirtle, or the fire-breathing Charmander? Each one brings a different set of advantages and challenges for the road ahead. In fact, you can learn a lot about a person based on their first Pokemon.
